My own feeling, based on my own personality, is that anyone who
cannot successfully agree on a marriage contract is doomed to
failure in marriage by that very fact.  The abilities ofopenly discussing
distastful subjects and supporting the other party emotionally when
the subect of loss comes up are two of the most necessary qualities
in a good marriage, and without them, only luck can prevent doom.
The recent emphasis on the self seems to have totally precluded any
thoughts of mutual support in the role model of marriage, and I'm
betting that it's the cause of many divorces, in situations where couples
THINK that they are supposed to be hard and self-sufficent.

I have heard rabbit!jj say on several occasions, usually while shaking his
head about something in the news, that "only friends should get married".
I am beginning to agree.
