Title: Illinois potluck report (finally)

Coincident with the NJ potluck, we held a similar event in Lisle IL.
It has taken me a week to dig out from under the work I put aside so
that I could work on the potluck.  I apologize for the tardiness of
this report.

An interesting thing has come out of this delay, though.  Several
people who did not attend sent me mail asking how it turned out.  This
leads me to believe that there are many "voyeurs", or "closet
potluckers" if you will, who avoided the first events just to see how
they turned out.

I also received mail from people as far away as Champaign IL (~3 hours
away) and Purdue IN (~4 hours away) saying that they would have
attended, but missed it for one reason or another.  Apparently, these
events could have quite a large draw once the word about them "gets
around".

So, what is the word:  Tons-o-fun!!  The food was excellent and the
people were terrific.  I think it safe to say that all enjoyed
themselves.  (My opinion is biased, admittedly.)  Oh yes, we *did* have
too many desserts -- what a terrible fate.

I received encouraging words from netters, and so, invited many single
friends of mine (many of whom did not know each other).  Also, several
people brought friends of their own.  I think that luck brought us a
well mixed crowd.

For the statisticians among you, here are the demographics.  Net
males: 8, net females: 2, non-net males 3, non-net females 9,
Total 22.  Females: 11, males: 11 (50:50!!).  Netters: 10,
non-netters 12.  Smokers: 3, non-smokers: 19.

I tried to pay fairly close attention to the subject of the various
conversations.  I'd guess that less that 1/2 the time was spent on "net
talk."  Many non-netters participated in these conversations as they
ranged through topics like net.movies.

I am willing to set up another PLD in early December, but I'd like to
see a better turn out from the net.  Send mail if you'd be interested
in attending.
