This message announces the birth of CanNet, the Canadian UUCP subnet.
If you are reading this, then your machine has joined CanNet.

CanNet is intended to provide a link between the universities, research
institutes and companies in the Canadian Unix community.
Its purpose is to facilitate the sharing of information relevant to
the research community in Canada, and to help stabilize reliable
electronic mail paths betweeen Canadian research sites.

A preliminary map and directory of CanNet sites will be posted to
this newsgroup early in the new year.
