Certainly it was funnier the first time, but part of the humour in the second movie was the deliberate overuse of the mechanisms in the first movie. While I may just have been in a mood to be amused, the references to current events (E.T., William Shatner-"Why doesn't anyone TELL me these things?", and so on) were worth the admission and time. I won't go into the name of the sentient computer on the spaceliner, or the name of the person who tries to turn it off, but I'm sure that 2001 fanatics will figure it out.(Where HAVE I heard that Strauss waltz before, anyhow) If you want artistic cinematography, well constructed and believable characters, and emotional content, go see "An Officer and a Gentleman" or "Victor, Victoria". If you want to be amused, and you don't mine laughing at the falliability of the human race, see Airplane II. Even though it is the second attempt, the satirical look at the human race and those who make movies about it still works, at least for me. How about you, Gene? "I don't care, I'm going to Callahan's Place."
