I saw "Tootsie" last night, and I would like to recommend it.
I had gone expecting a light comedy, and I was pleasantly surprised.
In fact I found it a very topical film, addressing many serious
issues.  (In case you are unaware, in this film our hero, an out-of-work
actor, gets a female role in a soap opera, and as a consequence, has to
lead a double life.  He finds it very grueling and illuminating experience.
He and various people around him grow and learn valuable lessons.)

And yes, the film is very funny.  My one beef would be that the writers
did not anticipate how funny it would be, and there are many lines which
you can not hear as the audience hasn't finished laughing yet.
