The physical laws about mammals talk about a having a cloven hoof and chewing cud, a mammal must do both to be kosher. This rules out pigs and horses, but not cows, deers (should you be able to catch one safely to slaughter it properly) and giraffes (should you have enough reach to be able to properly slit its throat). I have the following information from a Chasidic Rabbinical student (an eminently reliable source): Humans are not edible under Jewish law, but NOT because of "kosher laws," which do not apply to humans. As a matter of fact, I was told that humans ARE kosher, but there are other laws against eating them. Maybe not perfectly clear, but interesting. (That's the way Jewish law often is.)
