Now that we have 3 machines (2 780's, 1 750) running 4.1bsd, all of them have problems with reading in tapes at 1600 bpi. VMS doesn't have problems with 1600 bpi, but we really can't run VMS. So, I guess it's the TU77 driver (or mysteriously, all 3 drives have the same hardware problem). At least for 2 machines, we've had DEC come and allign, check out, and readjust the drives to no avail. It must be a ht.c problem. Does anyone using 4.1 and TU77s have this problem? I'd like to hear from you if you have TU77s even if you don't have a problem so we can at least compare the drivers. We also have problems in reading in any kind of block tape. We always have to use the raw device. These are some of the types of hard errors we get when trying to read 1600 bpi tapes (note the first one -- reports correctable error, but it's still a hard error): tu0: hard error bn7 mbsr=13080 er=100000 ds=50620 tu0: hard error bn0 mbsr=13080 er=2300 ds=54660 tu0: hard error bn16619 mbsr=13080 er=20000 ds=54600 tu0: hard error bn0 mbsr=13100 er=40000 ds=50703 tu0: hard error bn5560 mbsr=13080 er=100200 ds=50660 tu0: hard error bn0 mbsr=13100 er=40000 ds=54703 tu0: hard error bn0 mbsr=13080 er=1000 ds=54720 Can anyone help me diagnose this or at least provide meanings to some of the errors? Thanx VERY much --steve
