Does anyone on Usenet currently use it? TUCC (Triangle Universities Computation Center) tried it two years ago, but cancelled the project in favor of a huge MVS/TSO system. The project head was Steve Bellovin (unc!smb still works), with Dennis Rockwell (mcnc!dennis) and myself (duke!trt) part time. The following info is about 2 years old, but I bet it is still valid. UTS is half-duplex, its biggest problem. Its other big problem is that it runs under VM which is a 20% cpu slowdown unless you have less than 2 Mbytes of primary in which case it is a 60% IO slowdown (1 or 2 users!). A 4341 group 2 with 4+ Mbytes supports about 2/3 as many people as the same machine running CMS/VM. These are mostly guesses, for more info contact unc!smb. Tom Truscott
