I am soon to become a graduate student and am interested in exploring
various financial aid avenues.  The most interesting ones are the ones
based on merit that entail some sort of competition.  I will be a student
of the cognitive sciences.  The reason I am posting this message to 
net.college is that I am interested in conducting a survey of the various
graduate fellowships that are known to exist.  

The questions are:

(1) what kind of a fellowship is it?
(2) how sponsers it?
(3) how much support is given and for how long?
(4) to whom is the fellowship given (i.e. to artificial intelligence people,
    psychologists, linguists, etc.

Of course, any extra information is welcome.  Given the competitive nature of
these fellowships, I think it only fair to post the results of the survey in 
this news group.  May the most qualified applicant win.
