About ten seconds before the sonic boom occurred at EAFB, I heard a very
loud 'crash' in Ventura California, about 100 miles due west. 
Challenger was travelling relatively slowly, but still 'hopped' 100 miles
almost instaneously.  It was very exciting to have it fly overhead and to
see it land only five minutes later 100 miles away.  
(The sonic boom was a quick double pulse boom.)
