Regarding the "scandal" that "Ghandi" won over "ET":

  I respectfully disagree.  "ET" was a huge commercial success; all
  that money ought to be reward enough for it.  I found "ET" a
  generally unbelievable movie and devoid of any redeeming virtues.
  The category of "best picture" ought to recognize genuine artistic
  achievement, which I believe "Ghandi" to be.
