Ice in Water Article-I.D.: floyd.1429 Posted: Mon Apr 11 10:25:19 1983 Received: Tue Apr 12 01:07:46 1983 Could someone please explain the stuff about the water level rising because of "air" being displaced? The Archimedes principle ought to work whether it is in a vacuum, regular air, or laughing gas. Just one more thing that I can't resist. Someone made a statement here that "The air is obviously the reason why the ice floats". The note originated from a system called MIT-OZ. MIT turned me down for admission twice, and now here's this MIT person with new theories about why ice floats. ....sigh Stan King phone: 201-386-7433 Bell Labs, Whippany, NJ Cornet: 8+232-7433 room 2A-111 uucp: floyd!stan
