Sorry I missed the TV network broadcast.  But now I know where
those scenes came from in the COMIC BOOK version I bought after
seeing the movie.  It had Spock crying for V'ger's impending 
desctruction, along with Kirk & Scottie preparing the engines
for that eventuality.  I wondered why these neat items were not in
the film itself.  In fact, on weeing the movie I wondered why
it never occurred to the crew to rig for self-destruct,
a tactic used with great effect in the TV episoe "Planet Eater"
(on another, more-than-slightly used  starship, of curse).

SO THOSE GREAT SCENES WERE IN THERE ALL THE TIME!
Damn the SOB with the scissors!  Well I always knew ST-1 was
better than everyone thought.... mike k
