here is what i contend to be the best method of meeting those elusive MOTOS:
join some kind of volunteer organization or special interest group; it's
not work and not the other 'usual' sort of place, but it does preselect
in that you and the other person(s) all are overtly interested in whatever
it is: politics, prison reform, solar energy are some of the groups
that i've personally been involved in and have gained friends out of, of
both sexes; i won't claim to have become romantically involved, statistically,
in very many of those friendships, but there HAVE been a few.  This is so
simple that even Dear Abby says more or less the same thing, but she includes
church groups.  I would point out though that you should have a REAL interest
in whatever the group does; just going in the hope of 'getting lucky' is
hypocritical and is usually pretty transparent once you get a conversation
going, so be sincere about your participation, and you may be surprised to
find some real luck along the way.  ernie harkins
