This takes into account the misuse of the device which is responsible for most of the failures. People just don't follow the directions. I also read that people who really don't want children are more careful about following the directions than people who are just trying to space their children a few years apart. (New York Times 4/7/83). As for my opinions on the sponge contraceptive - I think it's about time we started ridding the oceans of those annoying critters.
