   For the record, I ALWAYS ask my partner about birth control.
Usually, the question is almost rhetorical, since she has more
at stake than I do, but not always.  Once, my ladyfriend was, ah,
distracted, which almost lead to a "But I thought YOU . . " sort
of situation.  She really appreciated the question.

   On the positive side, asking about birth control can never be
taken as "bad manners," because asking shows that I care.
Whatever the answer, the response is always positive.
