Article-I.D.: cbosgd.3410 Posted: Tue Apr 12 07:33:52 1983 Received: Wed Apr 13 22:46:01 1983 Since I have only just begun reading this newsgroup (up until about a month ago, I would have felt uncomfortable with this group in my options list) I am not sure if the current spate of articles about Miss Arwen's birthday constitute a departure from the norm in etiquette or whether contributors to this group are just naturally rude. In net.suicide or net.flame snide remarks and tasteless propositions are expected, but in a group dedicated to furthering human communication among the oceans of single people, I find articles like Judy's and Scott's (not to mention Carl's) distasteful in the extreme. Who are they to cast aspersions on Miss Arwen's moral character? To my mind, Miss Arwen has been as forthright and as decent a contributor as any I have seen on the net. Such ugly implications toward her strike me as immature and misguided. Let's try to keep net.singles from stumbling down the path of vulgarity and ill-feelings. I have watched such offal overwhelm several other newsgroups and in my opinion, it is not a pretty sight. Net.singles should be a group about good feelings, honest exchanges and healthy discussion, not one where a person's character is brought out on the table and subjected to a distributed disection through the wonders of electronic news.
