In 5th grade the girls were all shown a film about the technical details of "growing up", with a few subtle references to sex. The boys were also shown a film, but I don't know how detailed it was. ( At that age we didn't discuss such things in mixed company.) When I was a sophomore in high school in 1970 (Washington High in Portland...anyone else out there go to Washington?) I took the required PE/Health class. Part of the class was a few weeks on sex education. Our teacher was very open with us, showed us films (including one on teenage pregnancy) and brought in some people from Planned Parenthood to talk to the class. From what I hear, this was relatively progressive for that time, except for the fact that the class was not co-ed. ( I hope you all will forgive me for posting an article to net.singles.. I am a married person. But the sex ed/birth control discussion is of interest to us married folks too.)
