Cultures which are in an area where a high population cannot be supported (primitive tribes) the custom of murdering female babies is not uncommon, and in cultures where high population is wanted for some reason, customs are different. In fact, when a culture which has had a problem with overcrowding (short food supply, etc.) is displaced to a better environment, such customs change within one generation, usually. Catholicism, like many religions, originated such "laws" to ensure lots of followers.... Glenn Reid ..seismo!uwvax!reid
