Guy Harris mentioned that this is fixed in 4.2, since there is a set
of routines in libc for scanning directories.  What he didn't mention
is that an equivalent set of routines exists for old-style file systems,
and has been posted to net.sources at least once.  The idea was that
you could fix up your code BEFORE you got your 4.2 tape...

I think I have the routines lying around if anyone needs them, and could
re-post to net.sources if enough people ask.
