When I was at Langlitz in Portland getting measured for a set of custom
leathers, I saw reference to, and asked about, a protective flap for
riding in the wet.  In the pressure and confusion, I negelected to find
out very much, except that "lots of riders in Portland" use these in wet
weather.  Does anyone out there know more about this, and how well it
