Some time ago, playing rogue 7.2 I believe, I observed something
which made me form this hypothsis:  Vampires are destroyed by
light.  I was wearing a ring of luminesence, and occasionally
I would see what appeared to be a Vampire pop into the room through
the door and then pop out again.  But if I went down the hall
where it should be, it was not there.  So I have come to believe
that the Vampires were not popping out of the room, but were in
fact dying and disappearing.  I don't think my experience points
changed, though.
