If you're permanently self-hasted you are playing a buggy version 3.6,
I guess. I've never had the pleasure (we have 5.2), but if that's the
case you might as well go down. You have to keep going lower to get
new levels with gold, but it's worth it because you start finding a LOT
of gold. After level 26 (at least in 5.2), the monsters get stronger and
stronger, until a type that you have no problem with on 26 becomes
impossible on 29 or 31. But if you are hasted, you can keep alternating
taking swings (on the monster's off-move) and backing away (when the
monster has a move), so you should be able to do in anything. Hang in
there and go deep.
