Many moons ago, people thought that the world was flat, and that if you
went too far in one direction, you`d fall off the edge.  Since there are
4 basic directions(I exclude stuff like NE or SW), that gives you 4 sides
to the earth, which gives you 4 corners, which gives you the 4 corners of
the world!
