"Three sheets to the wind" is not a nautical term -- it derives from windmills!
When you set the sails on a windmill, you must set all four, or two opposites.
If you only set three, the windmill becomes unbalanced and exibits a pecular
and dangerous beecxcentric rotation -- kinda like a drunk.
