I guess I wasn't dreaming.  I just got my copy of the April ;login:
which states in the report on W.R. Guffy's talk introducing the System V
offering:
  "Mr. Guffy made the point that offering supported
   software is a new venture for Western Electric.
   He stated that they are not intending to displace
   existing companies that are offering products
   and support."
