I have a NEC 8023A on my IBM PC and have experienced no problems with
the screen print mode.  You can't expect the 8023 to print a graphics
screen, since its graphic mode is not compatible with the IBM/Epson
graphics mode, and if that's what your parents tried it ain't gonna
work, no way.  If they are using someone's print spooler?  That could
also be a problem area.  Also, I seem to remember something about
print screen not working when you are in Basic.
