Whenever I buy the latest Pink Floyd album, it's at about that time that I start to appreciate their previous album. I didn't reall like "Wish you were Here" until "Animals" came out, I didn't really get into "Animals" until "The Wall" was released. I own "The Wall", but I'm still not that crazy about it. I like certain sections, but I don't think I've ever played the whole thing through more than once. I hoped, in a bizarre sort of way, that the release of "The Final Cut" would mean that I would listen to "The Wall" and wonder why I hadn't liked it all along. I hope I'm not the only one that STILL doesn't like "The Wall". I still find it pretentious and overdone. Too theatrical. (which must have been great in concert.) As has been noted before, "The Final Cut" is much more low-key. And I find that a tremendous improvement over "The Wall" - the emotion and power of the music remain, with a sense of restraint that makes it more listenable. It's the only Pink Floyd album I have liked on the first listening since "Dark Side of the Moon". Well, I guess if you're a true Floyd fan, you own this new disk already. If you're not a true Floyd fan, but like some of their stuff, I recommend this album highly. (As always, I say: Don't buy it until you've heard it, and after you've heard it, don't pay attention to what anyone else says. I'ts YOUR opinion that counts.)
