This is a very interesting remark, Dave:

What makes you so sure God isn't playing a big joke on Christians (substitute
whatever theistic religion you subscribe to), and REALLY has decided to
send 'em off to Hell for being saps?  After all, you believe in the
"inaccessibility of God's motives to human scrutiny," don't you?  If what
you say is true, you're admitting that anyone else's GUESS is as good as
yours (i.e. your religious beliefs), and that what you're basing your
religious beliefs on is just that: a GUESS.  Can Christians afford to say
this (at least human ones)?
