A dangling participle, or some such technical term (grammar is not my
forte), caught me in a confusion trap.

To clarify the time sequence regarding my letter writing to a former
"datee" (the one who dates):

I dated her more than 6 years ago.
She moved away.
We have been writing for more than six years.
The actual time we dated was relatively short, about 3 months.
