Personally, when I find that a person I know is romantically involved
with a jerk, I tend to lose respect for him/her, instead of taking it
as a personal affront.  I mean, if a guy has such bad taste, I don't
really think he'd be able to appreciate what a wonderful person I am...
so I don't really think I'm missing too much.

Perhaps my "there are plenty of other fish in the sea" attitude comes
easier to a woman than a man, since there are more opportunities for a
woman to meet men through our profession than vice versa.  But there really 
are women out here who are definitely NOT looking for a jerk to get
involved with, so it's not hopeless.
