Before the flames begin, let me point out that there are countless exceptions
to the above.  There are a great many intelligent, sensitive people in the
world; when they encounter one another, it's a warm and wonderful experience
for both.  However, people like that (though great in number) are spread
far too thinly throughout the land; most people are sexist, most men are
aggressive and hostile, and most women are looking for that aggression and
hostility.  I suspect the net is loaded with intelligent, well-educated
and sensitive people; there are (relatively) few representatives of "the
majority" here.  Further, net sites tend to be Universities and small
high-tech companies; thus, we netters are surrounded by abnormally gifted
people like ourselves.  This re-inforces the illusion that society as a
whole is composed of such people; the reality can only be found by coming
into contact with it.  I would suggest that all potential flamers to my
previous article spend some time in the "real world", and watching the
people in it... you may wind up with a very different (but much more
accurate) picture of what "most people" are really like.
