Yup, people love talking about themselves.  Used to be when I met someone
new with whom I didn't have much in common, we'd spend the entire evening
discussing that person's life and history.  It made for easy conversation,
but at the end of the evening, I felt like charging $50 for each 50 minutes!

Moral: don't try to become a "perfect listener" (unless you want to.)
       Emphasize the give-and-take of good conversation.
