Such behavior, though common, is low class in my opinion. I wouldn't want someone sneaking around with my sweetie, behind my back. Besides the obvious jealousy and hatred, there's something interesting about a person who elbows his way into a relationship: Sometimes (always) relationships are quite taxing, and the two participants might have different points of view on certain issues. Let's say I'm at odds with my sweetie and we fight. Then let's say some nasty new guy comes into sweetie's life and butters her up. He's likely to say "Yea, you're right, Andy's a creep, why would he disagree with you like that?" when he has no interest in the issue other than to steal sweetie from me. Lots of people fall for this ploy, it happens ALL THE TIME. I've seen lots of situations where a person elbows his way between two others, and if the elbower succeeds, the elbowee is really hurt, unless he realizes that the woman wasn't worthwhile. It's a matter of self respect. Some people grab for whatever they can in life without regard for the feelings of others. That's their business, I just pray that they stay away from me.
