It makes me sad to read the flames regarding the original 'pawing'
article. I saw a young man without much experience with
women, who needed some reassurance that women like touching and
being touched as much as he thinks he would. Others seem to think
of him as terrible ogre who doesn't respect women.

To reach out and touch someone when you are 20 and haven't held
hands before is DIFFICULT. Let's be happy that Brian is trying
and tolerant of his unfortunate choice of words(unfortunate in
the sense of how many times he was misunderstood). 

Regarding the original question - if you are attracted to your
date perhaps you could start by holding hands or something 
similar during the date. Waiting til the end for the big kiss
blows the whole thing out of proportion. A recent movie -
Gregory's Girl, treated this subject  with sensitivity.
