These justify a >$200 cartridge, and have traditionally been the top end of the ``mid-fi'' market, finding their way into systems costing $2500-$4000. The owners of these systems have been waiting to replace their turntables with a CD player and a $200 turntable, which now outperforms their 4yr old >$500 top-of-the-line machine. The stratospheric heights of hi-fi, Linn-Sondek, Oracle, et al, have been little affected by the CD since their sales seem to be driven as much by psychoacoustic hype as by actual performance. Sources: My local high end + mid fi dealer, listings of manufacturer's lines, and personal bias in the last paragraph. -- Shaun Simpkins uucp: {ucbvax,decvax,chico,pur-ee,cbosg,ihnss}!teklabs!tekcad!shauns CSnet: shauns@tek ARPAnet:shauns.tek@rand-relay
