Lon Haldeman was in first place - 60 miles ahead of 2nd place Michael Shermer. In third, 118 miles back, was Seecrest (sp). Of the sixteen original starters, there are nine left. The route this year is longer than last year's route. The course came through Colorado this year and climbed up to 11,000 ft. to cross the Continental Divide. I was driving Interstate 70 Saturday morning and was surprised to see Shermer's entourage. I stopped to say hello and found Shermer getting a foot massage. He told me that he had just woken up from a 15 minute nap. His crew members told me that was the first sleep that he had gotten since starting in California three days before. I would guess that he has probably slept some since then. If I hear any more about the race, I will post it to net.bicycle.
