It was published in the US in 1950 under the title "The Legacy" by N. S. Norway. It has never been clear to me why Nevile Shute Norway used such different forms of his name in these two countries. Incidentally, Norway wrote "On the Beach" in the late 50's. It described the end of the earth due to a nuclear war. It was made into a very moving film (1960) starring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire (played a scientist and never danced!) and Anthony Perkins (played a loving husband and loyal US sailor). In all Norway wrote about 25 books, many of which were very good. One, "The Slide Rule" was autobiographical. Frank Myers Bell Labs, Columbus Ohio cbosgd!fhm
