Which brings me to my next point: New York drivers: I was brought up in the Washington, D. C. area where drivers are relatively courteous to each other and have spent the last few years in New York. It's one thing if you are aggressive but these people are utterly obnoxious. For example: If you don't react within one nanosecond after a light turns green the guy behind you is going to blow the horn (a friend of mine in retaliation sat at the light until it turned yellow and then went through - I commended him for it though I would not have done it myself for fear of getting shot). Another thing that irks me: I can't count how many times I was ready to make a left turn and the guy behind me made a left before I did nearly causing a collision. The excessive horn blowing in general I feel takes away all meaning of the horn and causes people to ignore it when it is really needed (if you are stuck in a traffic jam which is five blocks long - blowing your horn from the back is not going to do anything). One final flame against New York drivers: When the line for a light is beyond the next intersection they insist on blocking the intersection and not letting people coming from that intersection through - I once did not want to block the intersection when in that situation and the guy behind me started cursing me out and when I refused to budge he actually went around in front of me and blocked the intersection (I am sure he saved himself a lot of time that way)J. True there are a great number of cars in New York but many of their traffic problems are caused by the inconsiderate way in which New Yorkers drive causing gridlock, etc. I am waiting to hear from any New Yorker regarding these issues.
