So much for ideals. In the real world, many drivers who are being passed will actually speed up. This may be because they don't like being passed (its like losing a race), or they feel that the passing car was tailgating before passing and they want revenge. In any case, I find such behavior even more obnoxious than short-term tailgating (note: I'm against tailgating, so don't misconstrue me). However, sometimes just before passing another car on a one-lane road, it is safe to actually get close to the tail of the other car before pulling into the passing lane. To then have some jerk accelerate on me under such conditions is dangerous and irresponsible.
