HOWEVER, pulling over to let some moron go by me is another story. Most of the road shoulders around here are either too too narrow to permit it, or are covered with stones, or both. I do not choose to pick up some stone chips on my car so some imbecile can reach his destination 2 minutes faster. (We had a case near my home recently where the cops nailed a guy for doing ~70 in a 30 zone. His reason: he was trying to make his starting time at the golf course.) Naturally, all you stainless-steel superbeings out there are never guilty of bad judgement, and only travel fast when you have a reason, and are just trying to stay alert. But it's hard to verify all this just by looking in my rear-view mirror. I get tailgated a lot locally by people who seem to resent my doing 30 in a 30 zone. (What they don't seem to know is that the local cops are very fond of speed traps, and the more of these bastards they ticket, the better, as far as I'm concerned. The roads around here are such that going over 30 isn't safe in most places anyway.) My defensive driving course recommended that if you are tailgated, SLOW DOWN. At least that way if they hit you, it'll be a slower collision. A speeding ticket would double my insurance rates, David Wright {vax135|decvax|ihnss}!cornell!ddw ddw.cornell@udel-relay ddw@cornell
