Being one who has been on both sides of the fence on this issue, I can see the point being made by both speeders and non-speeders alike. It seems to me that the entire argument is a moot point, for the following reason: When one car is following another, either the back one wants to go too fast, or the front one is going too slow. Which is which depends (quite literally) on where you are sitting. However, there are some hints that you might take to see that you are in the wrong. Is the guy tailing you being tailed?? Is that guy being tailed?? After you pass that slowpoke, do you immediately come upon another?? Our highways are a practical application of lawless democracy, and if you are out of line with the normal traffic flow you are breaking with common courtesy. A final note before I flame off. I think that half of the reason that this argument has lasted as long as it has, is because of the different definitions of "speeder" between the West Coast and Eastern Seaboard. In the West, saying that you are a "speeder" is simply saying that you are a common joe, and The District is fucked. Californian freeways are designed for 70 (Nevadian freeways 110+), not the rediculous 55 mph, and everybody knows it. On the other hand, in the East, admiting that you are a speeder is like admiting you are a homicidal maniac. The roads and traffic do not support much more than the speed limit, except on the newest parkways. Thus, to speed, you must constantly pull dangerous maneuvers.
