For one, I do not 'hate' tim what's'his'name. I find some of his opinions highly objectionable and I will continue to voice my opinions against those of his opinions that I disagree with. I will also continue to support and agree with those opinions that I feel are worthwhile. SMOKING: It would really be 'NICE' if everyone respected everyone else's rights and freedoms. (By the way I agree with your definitions of freedoms and responsibilities) There are however those people that do not. There have continued to exist those smokers who have had total disregard for others around them. They DON'T CARE if their smoke bothers/annoys/offends or even damages the health of someone else. They continue to do what they want, whenever they want. It is for these people that I feel laws are necessary. Other means have been tried and have failed. Non-smokers have tried voicing their opinions, non-smoking sections have been introduced, signs have been put up and there has even been ad campaigns....all to no avail. So, if all else fails, put the law behind it. No, I don't believe that we need police standing in restaraunts watching people, just like we don't have them standing over people making sure that they don't urinate in the middle of the restaraunt floor. They are both offensive acts and should be dealt with accordingly. I am not stating that there should be laws banning smoking. Just as there should not be laws banning motorcycling or mountain climbing or choosing to view sexually oriented material. I do feel however that there should be laws prohibiting those acts in places that affect other people. I agree with laws that state that you may not ride a motorcycle down a crowded sidewalk, or climb the World Trade Center with people standing underneath you. I agree with laws that state that you can not publicly display sexually oriented material. I also agree with the idea of laws that state that you can not smoke in public places where your smoke will affect other people. When somone decides to smoke in their own home....fine...let them. But in public where their smoke DOES fill the air and prevents people from breathing CLEAN AIR, they should NOT be allowed to smoke. Whether it is physically damaging for someone to breath someone else's second hand smoke or not, it is OFFENSIVE to a LARGE number of people who are growing more adamant in their right to clean air. When someone 'lights up', I have no choice about whether I want to breathe that smoke or not. Not, if I wish to continue breathing at all. All in all, it's been said before a hundred times over...go back and read all those articles again...you might find a few valid points for not allowing smoking in public places. with love, but disagreement (** FRODO **) alias hou5f!jrt
