Mine credits my account the same day I make a deposit. The reason some banks do this is that checks don't really "clear", they only time out from not bouncing. That is, the bank where you deposited the check usually gets their money within a day or two. If the check bounces then they have to give it back. The long delays some banks impose are meant to cover the longest possible period the bank may have to wait to see if the check bounced.
