Since I have received several mail messages as well as the news
pro and con public chastisement of offenders, it seems fair to
share the summary of mail and news to date.


I have received several humourous (and some very indignant or self
righteous messages).

Not wishing to belabor a fellow pilot with too much, I still thought
you might enjoy some of the suggestions I received for dealing with the
verbose offender:

1) Public flogging with his own RS-232 cable.
2) Arc-weld his terminal into /dev/null
3) Mail complaint and copy to his system manager (I followed this one)
4) Call a Chicago "family" about concrete shoes for him
5) Go easy!
6) Lighten up!
7) Send his name to companies which make commercial (junk) mailing lists
8) Treat him like a CFI treats any student  (my instructor was the nastiest
USAF Captain I ever met!)
9) Ignore idiocy, like the poor, they are always with us
10) What did you expect from an ARPA-ite, they won't even answer mail!
11) The reaction was excessive
12 Burn the bastard at the stake (not stated whether public execution was
intended)
13) Complain to individual personally (I did that, too)

Any way the votes were about 4 to 1 that this sort of freshman idiocy
goes on constantly. Several mentioned the plaintive whining of the
ARPA-ites to "get off the mailing list". That one has irritated me to
the point of generating a form letter instructing in the use of man
mail and options in .newsrc..... oh well, by now you must have the
idea.

Mea culpa to having posted net.general...totally inappropriate.
