Relay-Version: version B 2.10 5/3/83; site utzoo.UUCP Path: utzoo!linus!decvax!ittvax!wxlvax!dwex From: dwex@wxlvax.UUCP (David Wexelblat) Newsgroups: net.flame Subject: Re: The Draft Message-ID: <165@wxlvax.UUCP> Date: Fri, 19-Aug-83 09:44:49 EDT Article-I.D.: wxlvax.165 Posted: Fri Aug 19 09:44:49 1983 Date-Received: Fri, 19-Aug-83 17:37:02 EDT References: <946@ittvax.UUCP> hou5e.719 Lines: 77 This generally aimed at "Duke of deNet" (how cornball can you get): 1) I know we can't get rid of war. We are all too stupid to handle that concept yet. That was just wishful thinking. My main point was that registation is just one step awy from the draft. Now, why would a country that is not heading towards war bother with registration, "defense"? Give me a break dude! No one is going to attack us. They all know that we could blow tham away. The only ones who would even think about are the Russians, and they would lob nukes, so there would be no need for an army. (No, I'm not saying that this will happen. No, I'm not changing my stand on war!) Therfore it seems to me that we are looking for a war to get into. (Or do you really believe that the Navy being off the coast of El Salvador is really just for "Maneuvers"? If we were such a peaceful country, then we wouldn't do such things, which are bound to provoke someone. 2) Why would you even consider letting pregnant women serve? That was your idea, not mine, so don't try and pin that one on me! I'm not against women serving (not that I'm in favor of anyone serving). What I object to is being FORCED to serve, while these femenists who scream about equal rights don't have to (and aren't allowed to). 3) By the way, I am a fundamentalist (born-again christian to all you crude people), but I am not a Bible-thumper. I don't try to force my religion on anyone, just as I don't want them to force there's on me. I was not trying to force anything on anyone. I was voicing an opinion, just the same as everyone else in this newsgroup does. That's what it's here for, isn't it? 4) OK, maybe "moral obligation" wasn't the correct phrase, but it's pretty close, and I can't think of a better one. Try and tell me you don't have a moral obligation against killing an innocent person! Well, I have one against killing ANYONE (no I don't want you to test that, because you would wind up on charges for murder 1). 5) Now for the big one -- **************************************************************************** * * * FLAME ON!!!! * * * **************************************************************************** Where the hell did you get the idea that I was promoting drunk driving? If you were here, I'd shove those words down you throat!!!! (No, I'm not a pacifist.) **************************************************************************** * * * FLAME OFF!!!! * * * **************************************************************************** For your information, three people I went to school with (two very close friends) have been killed in the past two years by drunks or by being drunk. I never have and never will drive after drinking. (Yes, I drink.) And what makes you think that an 18 year old drunk is less likely to kill someone than a 21 year old drunk? I'll bet that the major reason that so many teenagers drink (and drive) is because it's a forbidden thrill. They don't have that problem in France, where kids grow up drinking wine. So maybe there shouldn't be ANY drinking age. You missed the entire point of that statement. The point was that the country shouldn't be able to have its cake, and eat it too. If they wan't us to do "adult" things, then we should have ALL "adult" rights. 6) Stop putting words in other peoples mouthes, you incredible loser!!! I should inform you as to which part of my anatomy you can kiss, but I won't. 7) Grow up!
