I had a very good teacher who taught us something that I will never forget: "You never HAVE the right-of-way, you are mearly expected to yield it." I repeat this slogan just as a mention of a defensive driving tactic that has served me well, i.e. just because I have the right-of-way, I don't always expect the other driver to honor it.
