As long as we externalize our problems, we can't deal effectively with them. If we decide that are responsible for the violence and world strife we see around us, we are helpless to do anything. The problem is outside us, and now we must resist it. The funny this is, all our ways of resisting violence wind up being so violent. The only solution I see is to take responsibility for our situation. The world is a violent place because we (WE, not THEM, but ALL OF US) are violent creatures. No one group of people can be blamed. No one political system can be blamed. We have had violence and strife all along, across all boundaries. When we take responsibility, when we see that it is not happening to us, but we, as a group, are doing it, then we will have the power to change it. Alan Driscoll Bell Labs, Murray Hill
