I still contend an aware driver is the only answer to reducing the amount of carnage on the roads. All drivers, in all countries, should be required to take a "Defensive Driving" course to instill awareness of how to drive a car without being a bother to others. The basic premise of the "Defensive Driving" course is to go from point A to point B without annoying others, driving without becoming agitated and without breaking down. -- Roy W. H. Walters Jr. 201-949-5743 ---------- Oh goody! All netnews readers, in all countries, should be required to take a "Defensive Digestion" course, to enable them to swallow pronouncements like the one from hound!rwhw, above, and to instill awareness of the off-handed silliness of certain netnews contributions. In particular, your apparent innocence of the idea that is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS how other people learn to drive, so long as the other drivers obey the rules of the road (and so long as you don't pay for their education). I doubt an "aware driver" is the ONLY way to improve road safety -- Got any figures? What about less aware but more cowardly drivers? -- but if you REALLY want to see some "carnage", start telling Mexican cabdrivers that they should stop at stop signs, or Massachusetts drivers to yield the right of way when entering a rotary, and start telling people that THEY must take a "Defensive Driving" course because YOU feel there is too much carnage on the roads. What's that? You'll take the course too? How generous! I'm not a carnage fan, either, Roy, but I'm not real big on the words "There outta be a law", either. Nat Howard P.S. Your idea that such a course should include tips on how to get from point A to point B "without getting agitated and without breaking down" leads me to think that you're for awareness, but AGAINST being aware of what's going on around you (at least if you're in Massachusetts). Or are you for awareness, but against reaction? You might need that adrenalin.
