Texas CS Dept., Austin, Texas Lines: 12 A lot of the recent flame concerning telephone soliciting was well taken, but I wanted to point out one small thing: before you start flaming the tele- phone solicitors themselves, remember that a lot of them are extremely over- worked, underpaid slobs who work under sweat-shop-like conditions because they aren't qualified to do anything else. The people who deserve your rage are often not the ones who actually dial your number and wake you up, but the ass- holes who hire them to do it. This was brought home to me a couple of years back when I learned that an acquaintance of mine was working his way through a CS degree as a phone solicitor even though he despised the work and every- thing about it. He happened to be blind.
